D.E.A.R. National Challenge 2011

 

In celebration of both Manitoba School Library Day and National School Library Day, the Manitoba School Library Association challenged the students and staff at all Manitoban schools to join those across the country to "Drop Everything and Read" at 11:00 a.m. (or any time) on Monday, October 24, 2011.

We hope that this will become an annual national event to promote libraries, literacy and learning from coast to coast.  Look for the Provincial School Library Day Proclamation from the Manitoba Government and a poster promoting D.E.A.R. in a mail out in early October. What is MSLA?

The Manitoba School Library Association (MSLA) advocates for school library programs and professional development opportunities for its members.

Activities

MSLA strives to encourage effective library programs in Manitoba schools and to provide professional development events for its members. There is an annual fall conference in affiliation with the Manitoba Teachers’ Society SAG (Special Area Group) Day. A L.I.T. forum takes place in February featuring literature, information literacy or technology. An AGM is held in May.

MSLA acts as a vital liaison with the government Department of Education and with provincial, national and international associations.

Publications

MSLA publishes the Manitoba School Library Association journal three times a year. The MSLA Journal is a free publication sent to all members of the MSLA. It is one of the best ways to stay informed of the latest research and topics in the field of school libraries in Manitoba, Canada and worldwide.

All MSLA members are granted privileges to the Forum Login (on the the left sidebar). It is a free professional learning network where members are invited to join a timely school library-related discussion thread, begin a new discussion thread, share ideas and insights, or ask questions.
